Grief: When the Heart Hurts

By Dr. D (Danny Morris)

📖 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

Grief is one of life’s deepest pains. It comes when we lose someone we love, when a dream ends, when our health changes, or when life takes a direction we never expected.

Grief can leave us feeling empty, tired, and overwhelmed. Some days the pain seems manageable. Other days it returns like a wave and catches us by surprise. That is normal. Grief is not a sign of weakness. It is evidence that we have loved deeply.

The good news is that God understands grief. Jesus Himself stood at the tomb of His friend Lazarus and wept. He understands our tears because He has shed tears Himself.

When your heart is broken, God does not move away from you. He moves closer. The Bible says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.” He walks with us through the valley of sorrow and carries us when we no longer have the strength to walk alone.

If you are grieving today, be patient with yourself. Healing takes time. Allow yourself to remember, to cry, to pray, and to trust. God is not finished with your story. The valley is not your final destination.

One day the pain will soften, the memories will bring more smiles than tears, and God’s comfort will become more evident than ever before.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for being near to the brokenhearted. Comfort those who are grieving today. Give them strength for each new day, peace in the midst of sorrow, and hope for the future. Help them feel Your loving presence and trust that You are carrying them through this difficult season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
