Depression: Finding Light in the Darkness

By Dr. D (Danny Morris)

📖 “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God.” — Psalm 42:11

There are times in life when the darkness seems heavy. Depression can make even simple tasks feel difficult. It can drain our energy, cloud our thinking, and steal our joy. Many people suffer quietly, feeling as though no one understands.

The Bible reminds us that even great men and women of faith experienced deep discouragement. David cried out to God when his soul was downcast. Elijah became so weary that he wanted to give up. Yet God did not abandon them in their struggle.

If you are battling depression today, remember this: your feelings are real, but they are not the whole story. God sees you. He knows your pain. He understands the burdens you carry.

Sometimes healing comes through prayer. Sometimes it comes through trusted friends, wise counselors, doctors, medication, healthy habits, and the support of a caring community. God can use many tools to bring hope and healing.

Do not walk this road alone. Reach out to someone who cares. Take one step at a time. Trust God for today rather than worrying about tomorrow.

The darkness may feel long, but God’s light is stronger than the darkness. The Lord who created you loves you, walks beside you, and offers hope even in difficult seasons.

Prayer

Lord, for those struggling with depression today, bring Your comfort and peace. Remind them that they are loved, valued, and never alone. Give them courage to seek help, strength for each day, and hope for the future. Let Your light shine into every dark place. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
